June 4th: What is ‘Deeper Learning’? - We will dig deeper into the research of project-based learning. AM: Hands on Workshop and Keynote with Marc Chun Participants will engage in a collaborative learning opportunity to unpack the 6 competencies of deeper learning. We will ground our learning through common readings and examining various classroom and instructional practices, looking for evidence of students engagement in ‘deeper learning’.
June 5th: Performance assessment as a means to accomplish ‘Deeper Learning’. How do we know we are planning rigorous learning opportunities for our students?
AM: Participants will look at model projects through the lens of the 6 As. This structure frames how we plan and assess quality projects. The morning session will conclude with an opportunity to ask questions and hear from teachers and students who have experienced performance assessment as a tool to accomplish deeper learning. Guiding discussions will be lead by a keynote speaker. PM: Break out focus sessions (Mobile and 1:1 Technology: New Practices in Place Based Education: Performance Assessment; Next Generation Science Standards)
June 6th: How do we teach and assess deeper learning? A closer look at our Essential Questions; Learning Targets; and Instructional Strategies.
AM: Keynote with Bob Lenz of Envision Education Through a jigsaw around either a)creating essential questions; b) creating learning targets; or c) instructional strategies, participants will engage in a collaborative learning opportunity that entails engagement in research based reading and discussion, creating examples, and sharing out their learning to the whole group. PM: Break out focus sessions (Mobile and 1:1 Technology: New Practices in Place Based Education: Performance Assessment; Next Generation Science Standards)
